Tig Notaro has become a favorite and regular on NPR’s This American Life and on Conan. Her critically acclaimed sophomore album, Live, is out now. Tig has guest starred on such shows such as NBC’s The Office and Community, and HBO’s The Life and Times of Tim. Her popular podcast, Professor Blastoff, recently peaked at number one on the iTunes Comedy Podcast list.

In 2012, comedian Tig Notaro got a life-threatening infection in her intestine, lost her mother in a freak accident, went through a breakup with her longtime girlfriend, and—to top it all off—found out she had cancer throughout her chest. Because of the extraordinary way she reacted to all this—she went on stage within days of her diagnosis and turned her hardships into what Louis C.K. called “one of the greatest standup performances I ever saw”—she also had the biggest breakout year of her career.

The new documentary Tig, which recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival to a standing ovation, tells the story of that year and what followed. We asked Notaro how it feels to have her greatest tragedies and some of her greatest successes so closely tied together.

The comedian made her Ellen debut, talking about everything from her cat to beating cancer.

Megan recalls showing up daily to sing to her friend, Tig Notaro, while she was in the hospital and what happened the day Tig checked out and Megan didn't know.

Tig Notaro is no novice when it comes to shocking crowds. Her biggest breakthrough came in 2012, when she opened an instantly legendary set at Los Angeles’ Largo nightclub by announcing, “Thank you, thanks, I have cancer. Thank you, I have cancer. Really, thank you.” But nothing could prepare the audience for set at New York City’s Town Hall last November, where she stunned attendees by removing her shirt and performing the rest of her set topless.

We sat down with Notaro at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where she unveiled her new documentary Tig, and we asked her how she came up with the idea, how it felt to perform without a shirt on, and whether the venue had any idea what was coming.

A stand-up veteran of 15 years, Tig Notaro became legendary in comedy circles with the candid recording on Louis C. K's website, Tig Notaro: Live. Named one of the Top 50 Comedians You Should and Will Know by New York Magazine, she co-hosts the podcast, Professor Blastoff which premiered at #1 on the iTunes Comedy Podcast chart. - During our hilarious - albeit serious - interview with comedian Eddie Griffin, the established Hollywood actor decided to share tales of his personal bouts with both Bill Cosby and Michael Jackson. Griffin was (and continues to be) a supporter of the two men who have faced an onslaught of ridicule for sexual allegations in numerous separate cases. There is a systematic effort to destroy every Black male entertainer's image, Eddie told DJ Vlad. They want all of us to have an asterisk by our name. Griffin believes, like Michael and Bill, that most African-American male entertainers are singled out for their illicit behavior. Nobody leaves this business clean, he stated while pointing out the cases of others. You're not going to die clean.

In the upcoming movie White God, which won the Un Certain Regard award at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, canine actor Bodie plays Hagen, a mutt that—after he is separated from his owner—leads an uprising of hundreds of dogs against the men who mistreat and abuse them.

The film is made with virtually no CGI, and Bodie’s naturalistic performance (this is no Uggie) takes his character from sadness to ferocious anger to, ultimately, triumph. We asked Bodie and trainer Teresa Ann Miller to show us how Bodie gets into character.

Cary Fukunaga’s projects thus far include a crime drama about immigration (2009’s Sin Nombre), a Charlotte Brontë adaptation starring Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender (2011’s Jane Eyre), and, of course, an existential mystery series for HBO (he directed every episode of the first season of True Detective).

We caught up with Fukunaga at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where he served as a jury member in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, and we asked him what draws him to taking on such a wide variety of projects. We also asked him about his next movie, an adaptation of Uzodinma Iweala’s acclaimed novel Beasts of No Nation starring Idris Elba.
