Cambridge: Undergraduate Sample Lecture: Psychology of Education

    23:16

This short lecture explores some of the research findings from cognitive psychology that could have an impact on educational practices. In the first part of the lecture, we complete part of a classic study (Bransford & Johnson, 1972) looking what factors might help us remember. The results of this study indicated that having meaningful personal experiences before learning about something new helps us remember that something new much better than without those experiences. Further, those experiences need to be relevant for the information that we are about to remember. As a result of this work, Schwartz & Bransford (1998) recommended that there is 'a time for telling' meaning that lectures are only useful when they come after meaningful and relevant experiences. In the second part of the lecture we talked about a recent review paper by Dunlosky et al. (2013) that looked at a large number of different types of experiments in different learning contexts to evaluate whether certain types of revision techniques are useful. They report that some very popular techniques do not actually help with learning. We concluded the lecture with a discussion of these techniques.

Confucianism and Liberal Education for a Global Era: Lectures with Tu Weiming

For more on the Berkley Center, visit:

October 1, 2013 | A core goal of liberal education, as it has developed in the West, is the cultivation of thoughtful citizens oriented to the common good. Confucianism embodies a powerful educational philosophy that addresses many similar themes. How can the Confucian tradition enrich the conversation about the future of liberal education in the United States and around the world? In this year's Berkley Center Lecture, Professor Tu Weiming, a world-renowned Confucian scholar and the founding director of the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University, addressed this critical question.
Professor Tu's lecture was co-sponsored by the Georgetown University's Global Liberal Education Initiative.

  • Education For Whom and For What?

    1:59:28

Noam Chomsky, a world-renowned linguist, intellectual and political activist, spoke at the University of Arizona on Feb. 8, 2012. His lecture, Education: For Whom and For What? featured a talk on the state of higher education, followed by a question-and-answer session.

Chomsky, an Institute Professor and a Professor Emeritus of Linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he worked for more than 50 years, has been concerned with a range of education-related issues in recent years. Among them: How do we characterize the contemporary state of the American education system? What happens to the quality of education when public universities become more privatized? Are public universities in danger of being converted into facilities that produce graduates-as-commodities for the job market? What is the role of activism in education? With unprecedented tuition increases and budget struggles occurring across American campuses, these are questions that are more relevant than ever.

Banned College Lecture U.S Zionist False Education Exposed , Donald Trump & Hillary Clinton Exposed

    1:26:05

Ok, I have had enough and this must be said...America is a country that lies to their own children and hides the fact we live under evil elite families, who are mostly zionist and who fund your local politicians/leaders... THEY CONTROL OUR MONEY THROUGH THE ILLEGAL FEDERAL RESERVE / IMF etc., they own the media and almost everything of importance and have a monopoly on our economy..... and they spit in our ancestors and our face by saying we are in debt after they stole all the money and gold...WAKE UP AMERICA!! WE HAVE BEEN LIED TO AND WE ARE NOT IN DEBT!!!

WAKE UP!!! America and the worlds true enemy the news never mentions is the phony money Revelation 2:9 zionist banksters @ the federal reserve/world bank/imf who continue to hide behind the American flag and the false state of Israel and rape our planet, divide us on matters of no importance and hold us back as a human family....come to the truth, come to God, come to knowledge of self......Revelation 2:2 I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don't tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars.....ENDING LOANS WITH INTEREST IS THE SOLUTION TO 90% OF OUR PLANETS PROBLEMS, EVEN JESUS WHIPPED THE MONEYCHANGERS... John 2:15 Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers' coins over the floor, and turned over their tables. ...WHY??? = Ezekiel 18:13 If anyone lends money with interest, shall he then live? he shall not live: he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.....WAKE UP SO CALLED CHRISTIANS! Most of you support the Rev 2:9 bankers and the so called jews in the false state of Israel who don't believe in Jesus therefore you support the anti-christ: 1 John 2:22 whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist ....1 John 2:18 and as you have heard that antichrist shall come, even NOW are there many antichrists........the bible clearly states GOD will return us to the REAL land of Israel and when he does peace will be established, has there been peace in Israel since 1948 when the zionist bankers with the help of the UN robbed the palestinians of thier land??? ....there is a reason they stole a SMALL part of the land of Israel(Palestine) in 1948, it is bcuz they knew misguided christians who do not understand scripture would support them and thier evil actions of raping our planet and holding us back as a human race...and bcuz most christians do not understand the bible and the scriptures of the TRUE REAL RETURN of the Israelites/Jews(ZECHARIAH 8:7-8, Isaiah 2:4, Isaiah 43:5-6) NOTHING will change in our world until christians/America wake up to this, and IF U THINK JOHN 3:16 IS ALL U NEED U ARE ALREADY DEAD....Hebrews 10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left.....IF JOHN 3:16 IS ALL U NEED, WHY WOULD JESUS SAY THIS??? Matthew 7:21-22 Jesus said Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name. Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Get away from me. I never knew you......THE LAWS OF GOD IS OUR SAFETY AND REFUGE AND NO JESUS DID NOT DO AWAY WITH THE LAWS OF GOD....Matthew 5:17-20.....Yeshua(Jesus) did not fulfill all prophecies yet and that's why he told to keep laws until all fulfilled... The Bible says that he will:A. Build the Third Temple (Ezekiel 37:26-28).B. Gather all Jews back to the Land of Israel (Isaiah 43:5-6).C. Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore. (Isaiah 2:4)D. Spread universal knowledge of the God of Israel, which will unite humanity as one. As it says: (Zechariah 14:9)......Mark 7:6 Jesus said you hypocrites, These people honor me with their lips, You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions. You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!....EVEN PAUL SAID: Romans 3:31 .....1 LUV THRU PEACE LOVE AND JUSTICE, KnowTheTruthTV........Follow KnowTheTruthTV on Facebook @

    What is TEDx?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxMaastricht, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxMaastricht event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

Please take a look at this video that explains what TEDx has become:

    About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani,Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California, with simulcast in Palm Springs; TEDGlobal is held each year in Oxford, UK. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily, and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.

TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world, and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.

  • Forget university? 4 steps to design your own education | Till H. Groß | TEDxKlagenfurt

    16:53

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. How important is your education to you? Have you ever thought about designing your own education? Till H. Groß is a remarkable young man with a passion for psychology. He took his education in his own hands...with mind blowing success.

As soon as Till finished High-School he took his education in his own hands. After reading the whole psychology section of the small town library in his city, he set out to personally meet the authors of the books that thrilled him. In 2011, he started to consciously seek out the best psychologists, therapists and coaches all over Europe in order to learn from them. He visited them at home, attended their workshops and engaged in long email conversation asking numerous questions. His teachers were the founders of whole psychotherapy schools, masters in their field and some of the best paid coaches in Europe. Having the best teachers possible sped up Till’s learning curve immensely and enabled him to give talks throughout Germany at the age of 19, hold a guest lecture at the University of Vienna at age 20, conduct his own seminars, found a startup, and work as a coach at the age of 21.

Teaching art or teaching to think like an artist? | Cindy Foley | TEDxColumbus

    14:40

What is the purpose and value of Art education in the 21st Century? Foley makes the case the Art’s critical value is to develop learners that think like Artists which means learners who are creative, curious, that seek questions, develop ideas, and play. For that to happen society will need to stop the pervasive, problematic and cliché messaging that implies that creativity is somehow defined as artistic skill. This shift in perception will give educators the courage to teach for creativity, by focusing on three critical habits that artist employ, 1. Comfort with Ambiguity, 2. Idea Generation, and 3. Transdisciplinary Research. This change can make way for Center’s for Creativity in our schools and museums where ideas are king and curiosity reigns.

Cindy Meyers Foley is the Executive Assistant Director and Director of Learning and Experience at the Columbus Museum of Art. Foley worked to reimagine the CMA as a 21st century institution that is transformative, active, and participatory. An institution that impacts the health and growth of the community by cultivating, celebrating and championing creativity. Foley envisioned and led the charge to open the 18,000 sq. ft. Center for Creativity in 2011. In 2013, the museum received the National Medal for Museums in recognition of this work. Foley guest edited and wrote chapters for Intentionality and the Twenty-First-Century Museum, for the summer 2014 Journal of Museum Education.

In 2012, Foley received the Greater Columbus Arts Council Community Arts Partnership award for Arts Educator. She was a keynote speaker for the OAEA (Ohio Art Education Association) 2012 Conference. She is on the Faculty of Harvard University’s Future of Learning Summer Institute.

Foley is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and The Ohio State University. Prior to joining the Museum, she was with the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art, the Portland Museum of Art, and the Wexner Center for the Arts.

Indian education system especially in Engineering has failed

    24:09

I am not just complaining. I am going to see that the system changes. It may take time and more people but I believe that it will change. I appreciate and respect every teacher who is giving his 100% to help the students.
    Dear students,
Instead of becoming intolerant towards a religion, try becoming intolerant to bad teaching in the colleges. Make sure that all the colleges do the justice to the fees that you are paying.
Dear Faculty and the management of the colleges,
If you really think that it is the student's responsibility to search for various resources to learn, then why should they be paying for colleges? Why should they attend the classes? I am not talking about the things that are not in the curriculum. If you still feel that students should read only the books to gain the knowledge, then please make it an open university and do not force students to come to the college to get the degree. They will learn from books and good teachers somewhere else without wasting their time in the college.

Computer science education: why does it suck so much and what if it didn’t? | Ashley Gavin | TEDxNYU

    20:07

Ashley’s talk shines a light on the major problem that is American Computer Science education. In 2020, 1.4 million new jobs will be available for those with competing backgrounds, but we’ll only have engineers to fill two-thirds of them. Ashley shows us how we can right this wrong.

Ashley Gavin is a computer science education consultant with a passion for making computer science curricula empowering, accessible, and above all, fun. Her work in curriculum and program development serves as the foundation for some of the finest educational organizations in the country including her brainchild “Girls Who Code”.

During high school, Ashley was actively interested in tech. However, she was denied access to computer science courses at her school due her failing grades in math and science. In her senior year, the newly appointed CS teacher noticed her affinity for tech and took a risk by letting her drop math and take computer science instead. Ashley has since been working to do so for as many students as possible, especially those in underrepresented groups.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
