    Pictou Sadist - Crime Stories

    44:35

While serving a sentence for the 1979 violent rape of a young woman, sexual sadist Douglas Worth vowed to prison authorities that when he was freed he would make serial child-killer Clifford Olson look like a choirboy. They must have believed him; he was kept behind bars until his sentence expired in June 1987. Then he was free to go. Within six months, Worth had abducted 12-year-old Trina Campbell. He raped her, beat her to death and dismembered her body. He was arrested five months later in his car with Trina's head in a plastic bag on the back seat.

Bus 1170 : Vince Li and the Greyhound Bus Murder - the fifth estate

    41:05

A seemingly random decision, to take the Greyhound from B.C. to Winnipeg rather than a friend’s offer of a plane ticket, would cost 22-year-old Tim McLean his life and profoundly change the lives of those who witnessed his murder. On Greyhound 1170, Vincent Li, a diagnosed schizophrenic on his own randomly chosen bus journey, sat beside McLean and then, obeying voices inside his head, repeatedly stabbed and then cannibalized McLean’s body. The Fifth Estate recounts the story from the perspective of two of the surviving passengers, a truck driver who stopped to help, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Stanley Yaren, and Tim McLean's family. His father, stepmother and mother struggle to understand why the RCMP stood outside Bus 1170 for five hours, as Li cut up their son’s body, before intervening.

Tangiwai Train - Disasters of the Century

    21:54

The Tangiwai disaster occurred at 22:21 on 24 December 1953 when the Whangaehu River bridge collapsed beneath a Wellington to Auckland express passenger train at Tangiwai, in the central North Island of New Zealand. The locomotive and first six carriages derailed into the river, killing 151 people. The subsequent Board of Inquiry found that the accident was caused by the collapse of the tephra dam holding back nearby Mount Ruapehu's crater lake, creating a large lahar in the Whangaehu River, which destroyed one of the bridge piers at Tangiwai only minutes before the train reached the bridge. The disaster remains New Zealand's worst rail accident.

Quebec Bridge Disaster - Disasters of the Century

    21:56

The Quebec Bridge (Pont de Québec in French) is a road, rail and pedestrian bridge across the lower Saint Lawrence River between Sainte-Foy (since 2002 a western suburb of Quebec City) and Lévis, Quebec, Canada. The project failed twice, at the cost of 88 lives, and took over 30 years to complete.

The Quebec Bridge is a riveted steel truss structure and is 987 m (3,238 ft) long, 29 m (95 ft) wide, and 104 m (341 ft) high. Cantilever arms 177 m (581 ft) long support a 195 m (640 ft) central structure, for a total span of 549 m (1,801 ft), still the longest cantilever bridge span in the world. (It was the all-categories longest span in the world until the Ambassador Bridge was completed in 1929.) It is the easternmost (farthest downstream) complete crossing of the Saint Lawrence.

Le Mans Crash - Disasters of the Century

    21:42

The 1955 Le Mans disaster occurred during the 24 Hours of Le Mans motor race in Le Mans, France in June 1955, when a crash caused large fragments of debris to fly into the crowd. Eighty-three spectators and driver Pierre Levegh died and 120 more were injured in the most catastrophic accident in motorsport history.

There was much debate over the apportioning of blame. To reach his pit-stop, Mike Hawthorn had to cut in front of Lance Macklin, causing Macklin to swerve into the path of Levegh in his much faster Mercedes. The collision propelled Levegh’s car upwards and into a concrete stairwell, where he was killed, and the wreck exploded in flames. The inquiry held none of the drivers responsible, and blamed the layout of the 30-year old track, which had not been designed for cars of this speed.

True crime documentary : The Chad Choice story

    43:33

Chad, 8, was snatched from his bed while he was sleeping in his home where he lived with his family on October 31, 1991. Chad’s older sister told police investigators that her house keys had gone missing the day before;  she recalled leaving them by the back door to their residence. Local police interviewed various individuals-including Patrick Horn, who was a family friend and who had been at the family’s house on October 12th. Finding no evidence of forced entry or struggle, officers initially treated the case as if Choice had run away.

Two days after Chad’s disappearance, a ransom note was found at the business of Chad’s uncle, Greg Sterling, and the investigation immediately shifted to one of kidnapping. When the family attempts to deliver the money at a Greyhound Bus Station, the kidnapper is a no show.

Several days later Chad’s mother received an anonymous phone call stating that Chad’s disappearance was related to a family member’s drug debt to a man named Paco. Investigators learned that Greg Sterling owed money to three Colombian drug dealers operating in the area, Paco, Junior, and Carlos.

On the one-year anniversary of Chad’s disappearance, his mother, Karen Choice, finds a note flapping on her car windshield. The note claims Chad is still alive and demands $6,000 for his safe return. Once again, the investigation heats up and the Choice family hopes and prays they’ll see Chad again. The investigation is dealt a blow when the kidnapper fails to make contact, and the case, again, slips into the cold files.

Three years later, on the fourth anniversary of Chad’s death, the Choice family finds a skull in a plastic grocery sack on their doorstep. Their worst fears are confirmed when forensics determines the skull is that of Chad. Investigators struggle to understand what sort of a person kills and then continues to taunt the victim’s family for years.

On May 31, 1996, Patrick Horn was scheduled to be sentenced in federal court for some credit union robberies and carjacking charges. On that date, the federal district court judge told Patrick Horn that he was aware that authorities thought he might know something about Chad’s disappearance and advised Patrick to consult with his attorney about what he might know and whether he might be able to get immunity in his help with the case.

Patrick Horn, was actually the kidnapper and murderer of Chad. On the night he kidnapped Chad, he shot and killed him and buried him in a shallow grave behind his house. It took 5 years for the murder of Chad to be solved.

That wasn’t the end of the torment of Chad’s family. After he was convicted and sentenced to death, he refused to sign the waiver to release Chad’s remains to his family for a proper burial. By law he has to agree to allow the remains to be released being as they were part of the evidence in his case. He wanted to continue to have control over the family of 8 year-old Chad.

Patrick Horn was 17 years old when he kidnapped and murdered Chad. Under a ruling in the United State Supreme Court anyone under the age of 18 can’t be executed. His sentenced was changed to life in prison. We will never have to worry about Patrick Horn getting out of prison. He’s serving 2 life sentences. When he finishes one, he has another to do. That’s impossible to do, but the family of Chad Choice and rest knowing he will never walk free.

Red River Flood - Disasters of the Century

    22:18

The 1950 Red River flood was a devastating flood that took place along the Red River in The Dakotas and Manitoba from April 15 to June 12, 1950. Damage was particularly severe in the city of Winnipeg and its environs, which were inundated on May 5, also known as Black Friday to some residents.

An estimated 70,000 to 100,000 residents had to be evacuated, and four of eleven bridges were destroyed. In that year, the Red River reached its highest level since 1861 and flooded most of the Red River Valley, more than 550 square miles. One man died, and property losses due to the flood were estimated at more than $600 million to one billion.

Murder of Innocence Sian Kingi - Crime Stories

    49:16

On 27 November, 1987, 12-year-old Noosa school girl, Sian Kingi was grabbed off her push bike by Valmae Fay Beck and Barrie John Watts as she rode home from school. Beck and Watts gagged the innocent, terrified child. Watts then raped and bashed her. He then callously, and without remorse, cut her throat while his cowardly wife and mother of six watched on. Six days later, a fruit picker discovered Sian's mutilated body, still dressed in her Year Seven Sunshine Beach School uniform, in a creek bed. The hunt for the killers and their arrest was led by Bob Atkinson, now Queensland's police commissioner. As a result of thorough and dedicated police work by Queensland detectives, and in concert with New South Wales police, Beck and Watts were located hiding in a motel at Long Jetty on the NSW Central Coast a few weeks later. Police believe Beck and Watts are linked to the murders of Sharron Phillips, 20, in Brisbane's outer west, Stella Mary Farrugia, 19, and Louise Bell, 10, in Adelaide. In 1995, Watts was convicted of the manslaughter of 31-year-old student, Helen Mary Feeney in late 1987. Beck gave evidence against Watts, though Ms Feeney’s body has never been found. In 2008 Beck was hospitalised and underwent heart surgery, but later died in hospital.

Serial Killers and Cult Leaders: Adolfo Constanzo El Padrino - The Black Magic Torturer & Murderer

    28:48

Rituales de Sangre: The True Story Behind The Matamoros Cult Killings is a ghastly and all too real True Crime documentary about the investigation and tracking down of American serial killer and cult leader, Adolfo de Jesús Constanzo a.k.a. El Padrino or The Godfather of Matamoros (November 1, 1962 – May 6, 1989). In the 1980s, his religious cult performed ritual torture and murders.
He gave one of his lovers, Sara Aldrete, the title La Madrina... Spanish for Godmother. This granted her privileged status and superiority within the cult, and Constanzo made her his High Priestess. She became known as The Witch of Matamoros.
The group performed a large number of human sacrifices to 'support' their illegal drug trafficking in Matamoros, Mexico - located directly south across the U.S.-Mexico border from Brownsville, Texas. They honored a belief system which was a mix of Palo Mayombe (having its roots in the Congo basin of central Africa, from where large numbers of African slaves were brought to Cuba), Santeria, and Mexican Brujeria (witchcraft). Cult members believed that these ritual sacrifices would satisfy Adolfo's cauldron and provide the cult with supernatural powers and supreme protection against law enforcement, rival drug cartels, as well as anyone else who stood in their way.
The disappearance and death of a University of Texas Med student, Mark J. Kilroy, during Spring break of 1989 however... would turn out to be a fatal error for Adolfo Constanzo and his sadistic followers.
